P-F-R's What Coulda Been Tournament

Just a fun, fun idea: Pro-Football-Reference is doing a March Madness tournament featuring the best teams that didn't win the Super Bowl. So many teams were nominated that they've expanded it to 80 teams; all Super Bowl losers are represented, as are most teams that ended up 13-3 or better. The top seeds are the 2007 Patriots, 1998 Vikings, 1968 Colts, and 2001 Rams.

Packers Unveil Very Ugly Throwbacks

Further proof that just because something is traditional does not mean it is good: The Packers last week unveiled a third uniform, highlighted by a blue jersey that features blue numbers in a yellow circle. It's a recreation of the team's 1929 uniforms. So eighty years ago they decided this was a bad design, and now they are bringing it back for whatever reason. Aside from that detail, the uniforms aren't terrible, merely boring -- brown helmet, drab tan pants.

It appears that the Seahawks are acquiring Charlie Whitehurst with the idea that he'll be their next starting quarterback. Seattle's agreed to send San Diego a third-round pick while swapping second-round picks, and are giving Whitehurst a two-year contract at $5 million per year.

This week's ESPN article is on the performance of backs inside the 5-yard line, a topic I've discussed more than once but haven't written (from what I remember, at least) a full story on. This covers LaDainian Tomlinson's performance and the player who had a historically-bad performance inside the 5-yard line in 2009.
