Over on his own site, our new prospect scouting writer Matt Waldman has some thoughts about Russell Wilson, comparing him to Drew Brees, and what that says about player comparisons in general. Comparing player style doesn't mean that you're saying Player A is just as good as Player B.

We have one of these announcements about an attempt to create a new minor league every six months or so, and I think I always link to them, because I still think it's a good idea to have a spring developmental league that plays in smaller markets. This new USFL seems to have everything right. The key phrase from this FAQ on their website might be "Our intention is to allow NFL personnel unfettered access to practices and games." This thing is being built 100 percent as a developmental league. It seems a lot closer to the NBDL than to any of the other failed attempts, although I doubt there will be strict team-to-team affiliation agreements.

We want to congratulate Brian McIntyre, who has been hired by NFL.com to write for their Around the League blog. Great move and the perfect fit, because nobody on the Web blogs news better than Brian does. Unfortunately, the NFL.com hire means that Brian can no longer write for FootballOutsiders.com. However, he can still write for Football Outsiders Almanac, and will still be doing two chapters for this year's book and hopefully many more to come.

Daniel Engber of Slate asks: What if we're overstating the effects of concussions? No, he doesn't suggest that doctors are overstating the problem that concussions lead to dementia, memory loss, and headaches. But does that necessarily cause suicide? A recent CDC study showed that ex-NFL players were 59 percent less likely to commit suicide when compared to age- and race-matched non-athletes from the general population. And if CTE causes suicide, what's the explanation for the popular belief in Commonwealth countries that playing competitive cricket leads to high rates of suicide?

On the heels of the controversial Bruce Irvin draft pick (as discussed earlier this week by Mike Tanier) comes this piece by Clare Farnsworth on the Seahawks' official site breaking down Pete Carroll's unorthodox defensive schemes.

Whoa boy. Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs tore his Achilles tendon and likely will miss the 2012 season. Reports differ as to whether he injured the tendon during a conditioning test or while playing basketball. This is a huge loss for Baltimore. Suggs was Defensive Player of the Year last year, with 14 sacks (tied for fifth in the NFL) and, by FO's count, 38.5 hurries (second in the NFL).

We're just getting the details, but apparently all-time great linebacker Junior Seau has been found dead in his San Diego home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. From what I gather, he had a really hard time leaving football behind.

Veterans like Chris Crocker, Bryant McFadden, and Andre Gurode have left unsettled situations in their wake. How will the AFC North turn them over?
