As you can see from all of these stats (came from ESPN.com) which team is a better team in this Super Bowl match-up! My prediction is obviously for the Packers 28-27! The only reason why im putting this game as close as it is, is because the Packers haven't been doing so well in the 4th quarter!
Im not saying that the Steelers are a bad team but there is no way with a passer rating as that low and Clay Matthews and Chad Clifton and your Center, your not going to win the Super Bowl, in my opionion!

As Roger notes, it looks like you're comparing total playoff production when GB has a 3 games to 2 games edge. Even with the rate stats, I don't think looking only at playoff games is a good idea. The sample size is too small and the opposition is too good. (I think a low passer rating against BAL and NYJ can be expected.) I do agree that the loss of Pouncey has a big impact, probably in the basic formations and strategy the Steelers will employ on offense.

Also... when did we start "watching" proudly, instead of "hailing"? Have we *really* dumbed things down to such an extent that people don't know what it means to hail something?
Here's something I noticed back in week 17 that hasn't failed me yet. (We'll see if the Packers have fixed it.)
When Green Bay lines up in an offset I with 3 wide receivers, and the tight end motions across the formation right before the snap, it's ALWAYS a play action pass.
Watch, and let's see if it's not just my imagination.
The fire Marshall said 400 overflow seats were not safe, and 400 people got screwed out of their seat to the SuperBowl. They are receiving 3 times the face value of the ticket (so $2700) as a refund. That probably doesn't come close to compensating for the price of the trip / loss of experience. Basically, 400 people got royally screwed
1) Is that last 0.3 percent really what will keep people from evacuating?
2) Have the Stadium been to crowded all year?
3) How is that not checked right after the place was built?
4) Jerry's gotta be pissed.

NY Times has a recap. Ah, who doesn't love a bit of schadenfreude? I feel terrible for the fans who spent thousands of dollars to not watch the Super Bowl, but Jerry Jones falling flat on his face? Priceless.
Looking back, do you think Nelson deserves the MVP more than Rodgers? Or perhaps Jennings more? I figured that Rodgers won MVP more or less by default, because there was no single player who stood out, so might as well give it to the QB, who did have a pretty good game.
I think Nelson would have a good case if not for those big couple of drops. He put up excellent numbers, but it did take him 15 targets to get there. Still though, considering the game Rodgers put up under extreme pressure with very little help from the running game (and considering his numbers would also have looked better if Nelson had caught those balls), I think he earned his award.
Yes, we have to keep in mind that if Nelson and Jones catch the balls that hit them in the hands Rodgers probably finishes with 400 yards and 4, maybe even 5 TDs.
It would be hard for Nelson to elevate to MVP calibre numbers without Rodgers' case for MVP not getting even stronger.

No...they just thought they were OK at the position and he was no better than the guys in front of him...they needed to cut someone...like Woodhead... the Jets had lots of positions where the backups and the backups to the backups were all about the same quality...every time they had an injury, whoever filled in was acceptable...that's how they could play so many DB's against the Patriots in the playoff game, too...they were a very deep team...their cuts played for other teams, and more than just GB and NE...
Given the state of the GB secondary, it's good the length of a typical SB halftime runs at least a half hour. Plus, GB gets the ball first unless Pittsburgh tries an onside kick. That couldn't happen two years in a row, could it.
Frankly, if both are lost for the game, I don't see any way GB can win. Pitt will score every single time. Even if one of Shields/Woodson comes back, it's going to be tough for GB to stop them.
I'm not feeling good about GB's chances at all right now.
Up by 11 at the half and getting the ball first in the second half against a team QB playing a hurt QB and missing its third receiver and second CB, and you don't like their chances?
No, I don't. Bush made a nice play while in safety-type coverage, but he is a terrible, terrible coverage guy. Pat Lee, obviously, is no better. There's a good chance the defense will crumble as they did last year against Pittsburgh.

The non down by contact seems clear to me. I'm not sure about the control and fumble vs no control part. But say it's a fumble. They blew it dead and anything after the whistle is a non-play. How do you determine who gets the ball?
Common sense tells me that should be a catch and fumble. My understanding of the rules are that it's incomplete. As Calvin Johnson will confirm, common sense is worthless in interpreting the NFL rulebook.
Explain how your understanding of the rules means that wasn't a catch. What about the "football move" language? Didn't we just witness a catch and a football move?
That is correct. There is no longer "football move" in the rules. they now have to hold onto the ball long enough to establish possession. Whatever that means.
So. Since Pittsburgh's been down 21-3, 6 penalties on Packers. Zero on the Steelers. Every close call has gone Pittsburgh's way. The NFL just can't help itself.
If all the calls are on the Packers, than of course the close calls will favor the Steelers.
The problem with the statement, though, is it implies that the Steelers "comeback" was caused by the refs, and not by the Packers imploding.
Do you understand the difference between "every close call has gone Pittsburgh's way" and "every call that has gone Pittsburgh's way was a close call?"
And now, on the second punt because of penalty, Swain gets obviously held in the replay. It's a flag even if it's not effective. How much do money do the refs have on Pitt anyway?

I think Nelson's trying hard to be MVP. He has to (a) have really great numbers, and (b) keep Rodgers from having really great numbers. It's quite the balancing act.
Yeah. I went back and looked at the replay to make sure. It was a blatant wrestling take down from behind to save your quarterback kind of penalty. I have no idea how Troy Aikman didn't see it.
I totally believe it. The Steelers o-line holding isn't a surprise. I was just thinking that when I thought the play Troy and the replay highlighted was the call, I didn't see it.
Yeah, I like how Joe and Troy explained that the refs must have gotten the uniform number wrong and then proceeded to show us something other than the penalty that had been whistled.
Now the part that worries me is that we're going to hear about Rodgers's predecessor all offseason. Well, until people finally start realizing that there's going to be no football next year.
He's one of football's all-time great quarterbacks. I can understand frustration at the rather graceless way he's leaving the league, but I think he earned more from Green Bay fans than to be mocked and then forgotten.
Fans of other teams should absolutely mock him, though...
What happened to the Steelers at the end? They looked totally lost. Ben Rothisburger needed to get his team on the same page. You can't have receivers not knowing the play in a two minute offense.
They imploded on a few plays and then Tramon Williams made a good play at the end. The MVP should be Tramon Williams. He figured out on the opening drive that the refs were going to allow a lot of contact, and he just proceeded to maul wide receivers for the next four quarters.
Didn't Pitt have a timeout left before that 4th down? They should have used it; when players come out of the huddle confused and lining up in the wrong places, that's a sign that the play probably isn't going to work.

That was mostly a good game.
I wish there would have been fewer injuries, and I don't think the Steelers played particularly well overall. I look forward to seeing what DVOA has to say in that respect, but I think it could have been a much better game.

I will confess that the "QB on the winning team gets MVP unless he REALLY stinks or someone else has a monster game" is pretty lame, but does anyone really think Aaron Rodgers didn't deserve it? He only made a few bad throws that I saw, and Pitt was carving up the GB defense for series at a time. Tramon Williams didn't even get one of the picks, and he probably would have needed 2 with a TD to get an MVP.

He was almost perfect, it was exceptional. He just happened to have a lot of big drops so the stats don't look exceptional. One of the better overall super bowl performances by a QB.

Congrats to the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, both very deserving. Rodgers' quick release and accuracy was tremendous. People will blame Roethlisberger and Mendenhall for the three turnovers, but I thought that all 3 turnovers were the result of great defensive plays. Just a great game by the Packers. Congrats. (from a lifelong Steelers fan)
The worst part about the game was the fact that Troy Aikman was calling it. Nobody can make an exciting game sound boring like Aikman. By the way he was talking about the game, you would have thought the Steelers were winning the whole time! After halftime when he was talking about what needs to happen in the second half, he spent (literally) the entire time talking about the Steelers, as if the Packers weren't even there, never mind the inconvenient fact that they were up 21-10! I find Aikman unbearable. When Hines Ward makes a nice play, Aikman gushes, "he's been excellent all night, really dominating!" When Jordy Nelson makes a nice play, Aikman says, "he's had a busy night."
Fox's coverage of the game was terrible. Their slow-motion replays added no useful information, and the shots they chose were mostly random and uninteresting. They almost never showed Mike McCarthy (probably because he's not so good looking, to put it nicely), and every time they showed Aaron Rodgers they made sure his face took up only a tiny portion of the screen.
Perhaps I'm spoiled by the superb coverage they do over at NBC, but Fox looks like a bunch of amateurs, and extremely biased amateurs at that.

A few comments about the game and my experience:
I think Rodgers played both better and worse than his final numbers indicate, looking lost and unstoppable at different stretches of the game. However, if anybody has a suggestion for a better MVP, I would consider your argument. Though, in this game, I am not sure if there is one.
If the Steelers won, literally nobody from their team seemed very "MVP-like," so I could have seen any number of non-Ben candidates winning. If Ben won, I would have given up football altogether.
When that facemask happened, all of the Steelers fans in the area yelled "Good flag." They all then proceeded to blow vuvuzelas and various airhorns. They also spent most of the first half blowing these objects in the ears of the Packers fans, and cheering when the entire Packers secondary got hurt.
If anybody calls this a sloppy game, I am not sure why. Since I have already seen that, I pose the following: WTF?
Tramon Williams is an amazing player, but we all knew that. Dom Capers is an amazing coordinator, and most of us knew that. Other than a brief stretch in the third quarter, neither of them showed weakness.
My employer is HQed in Pittsburgh so I have been to many Pirates, Steelers and Penguins games and I've found Pittsburgh sports fans to be extremely polar in their behavior...either disarmingly nice, hospitable and friendly or complete bastards.
Weird phenomenon that other non-Pitt based co-workers have also noticed.

Here's something I noticed back in week 17 that hasn't failed me yet. (We'll see if the Packers have fixed it.)
When Green Bay lines up in an offset I with 3 wide receivers, and the tight end motions across the formation right before the snap, it's ALWAYS a play action pass.
Watch, and let's see if it's not just my imagination.

The fire Marshall said 400 overflow seats were not safe, and 400 people got screwed out of their seat to the SuperBowl. They are receiving 3 times the face value of the ticket (so $2700) as a refund. That probably doesn't come close to compensating for the price of the trip / loss of experience. Basically, 400 people got royally screwed

Looking back, do you think Nelson deserves the MVP more than Rodgers? Or perhaps Jennings more? I figured that Rodgers won MVP more or less by default, because there was no single player who stood out, so might as well give it to the QB, who did have a pretty good game.

I think Nelson would have a good case if not for those big couple of drops. He put up excellent numbers, but it did take him 15 targets to get there. Still though, considering the game Rodgers put up under extreme pressure with very little help from the running game (and considering his numbers would also have looked better if Nelson had caught those balls), I think he earned his award.

Yes, we have to keep in mind that if Nelson and Jones catch the balls that hit them in the hands Rodgers probably finishes with 400 yards and 4, maybe even 5 TDs.
It would be hard for Nelson to elevate to MVP calibre numbers without Rodgers' case for MVP not getting even stronger.

No...they just thought they were OK at the position and he was no better than the guys in front of him...they needed to cut someone...like Woodhead... the Jets had lots of positions where the backups and the backups to the backups were all about the same quality...every time they had an injury, whoever filled in was acceptable...that's how they could play so many DB's against the Patriots in the playoff game, too...they were a very deep team...their cuts played for other teams, and more than just GB and NE...

Given the state of the GB secondary, it's good the length of a typical SB halftime runs at least a half hour. Plus, GB gets the ball first unless Pittsburgh tries an onside kick. That couldn't happen two years in a row, could it.

Yeah. I went back and looked at the replay to make sure. It was a blatant wrestling take down from behind to save your quarterback kind of penalty. I have no idea how Troy Aikman didn't see it.

I totally believe it. The Steelers o-line holding isn't a surprise. I was just thinking that when I thought the play Troy and the replay highlighted was the call, I didn't see it.

Yeah, I like how Joe and Troy explained that the refs must have gotten the uniform number wrong and then proceeded to show us something other than the penalty that had been whistled.

He's one of football's all-time great quarterbacks. I can understand frustration at the rather graceless way he's leaving the league, but I think he earned more from Green Bay fans than to be mocked and then forgotten.
Fans of other teams should absolutely mock him, though...

What happened to the Steelers at the end? They looked totally lost. Ben Rothisburger needed to get his team on the same page. You can't have receivers not knowing the play in a two minute offense.

They imploded on a few plays and then Tramon Williams made a good play at the end. The MVP should be Tramon Williams. He figured out on the opening drive that the refs were going to allow a lot of contact, and he just proceeded to maul wide receivers for the next four quarters.

Didn't Pitt have a timeout left before that 4th down? They should have used it; when players come out of the huddle confused and lining up in the wrong places, that's a sign that the play probably isn't going to work.

Wallace was confused on the third down play, not the fourth down play (lined up on the left side on fourth down, right side on third).

That was mostly a good game.
I wish there would have been fewer injuries, and I don't think the Steelers played particularly well overall. I look forward to seeing what DVOA has to say in that respect, but I think it could have been a much better game.

My guess is DVOA gives a slight edge to the Steelers, as Green Bay recovered both fumbles, and got a touchdown off an Int return.

Totally. That being said, the Super Bowl MVP is the "Winning QB Unless Somebody Has A Really Exceptional Game" award.
Jordy Nelson should be glad he didn't catch that last TD and possibly win the MVP, as he'd have almost invariably wound up having to play for the Raiders.

I will confess that the "QB on the winning team gets MVP unless he REALLY stinks or someone else has a monster game" is pretty lame, but does anyone really think Aaron Rodgers didn't deserve it? He only made a few bad throws that I saw, and Pitt was carving up the GB defense for series at a time. Tramon Williams didn't even get one of the picks, and he probably would have needed 2 with a TD to get an MVP.

Sure, Rodgers had a good game, but it was more efficient than exceptional. It still feels like he won by default.

He was almost perfect, it was exceptional. He just happened to have a lot of big drops so the stats don't look exceptional. One of the better overall super bowl performances by a QB.

I agree that Rodgers is a good pick, but Matt Snell, Reggie White, and Justin Tuck were all snubbed in favor of more high-profile players. Football writers don't necessarily know football better than some fans.

Congrats to the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, both very deserving. Rodgers' quick release and accuracy was tremendous. People will blame Roethlisberger and Mendenhall for the three turnovers, but I thought that all 3 turnovers were the result of great defensive plays. Just a great game by the Packers. Congrats. (from a lifelong Steelers fan)

The worst part about the game was the fact that Troy Aikman was calling it. Nobody can make an exciting game sound boring like Aikman. By the way he was talking about the game, you would have thought the Steelers were winning the whole time! After halftime when he was talking about what needs to happen in the second half, he spent (literally) the entire time talking about the Steelers, as if the Packers weren't even there, never mind the inconvenient fact that they were up 21-10! I find Aikman unbearable. When Hines Ward makes a nice play, Aikman gushes, "he's been excellent all night, really dominating!" When Jordy Nelson makes a nice play, Aikman says, "he's had a busy night."
Fox's coverage of the game was terrible. Their slow-motion replays added no useful information, and the shots they chose were mostly random and uninteresting. They almost never showed Mike McCarthy (probably because he's not so good looking, to put it nicely), and every time they showed Aaron Rodgers they made sure his face took up only a tiny portion of the screen.
Perhaps I'm spoiled by the superb coverage they do over at NBC, but Fox looks like a bunch of amateurs, and extremely biased amateurs at that.

A few comments about the game and my experience:
I think Rodgers played both better and worse than his final numbers indicate, looking lost and unstoppable at different stretches of the game. However, if anybody has a suggestion for a better MVP, I would consider your argument. Though, in this game, I am not sure if there is one.
If the Steelers won, literally nobody from their team seemed very "MVP-like," so I could have seen any number of non-Ben candidates winning. If Ben won, I would have given up football altogether.
When that facemask happened, all of the Steelers fans in the area yelled "Good flag." They all then proceeded to blow vuvuzelas and various airhorns. They also spent most of the first half blowing these objects in the ears of the Packers fans, and cheering when the entire Packers secondary got hurt.
If anybody calls this a sloppy game, I am not sure why. Since I have already seen that, I pose the following: WTF?
Tramon Williams is an amazing player, but we all knew that. Dom Capers is an amazing coordinator, and most of us knew that. Other than a brief stretch in the third quarter, neither of them showed weakness.

My employer is HQed in Pittsburgh so I have been to many Pirates, Steelers and Penguins games and I've found Pittsburgh sports fans to be extremely polar in their behavior...either disarmingly nice, hospitable and friendly or complete bastards.
Weird phenomenon that other non-Pitt based co-workers have also noticed.
